These are the best beaches in Bude and the best beaches near Bude.
They are listed in geographical order - working down the coast from North to South.
Duckpool
Duckpool is a gorgeous little bay at the
foot of a wooded valley. It is also one of
the Bude area's best kept secrets -
known mostly by people who stumble
across it whilst walking the coast path.

The picture shows Duckpool at high-tide.
When the tide is out, Duckpool offers a
large area of soft yellow sand, and you
can walk for miles along the beach in
either direction.

WARNINGS
1. Surfing conditions here are dangerous
for inexperienced surfers.
2. The tide comes in quickly. If you
venture beyond the rocks at either end of
the beach, you could be cut off - very
dangerous!
3. There are no lifeguards here.
Sandymouth Bay

Sandymouth is an excellent beach,
especially at low tide. There are acres
of golden sand, patrolled by
lifeguards. Sandymouth is a wonderful
family-friendly beach.

The surfing here is good - but it is
more suited to experienced surfers
than beginners. Exercise caution!

Due to its relatively isolated location,
Sandymouth never really suffers from
overcrowding. Facilities are limited, so
bring a picnic! The car park is run by
The National Trust, and there is
usually an attendant on site in
summer = good security!

Northcott Mouth

Northcott Mouth is the ideal
"Get away from it all" beach.
You will find seclusion here - but not
much in the way of creature comforts!

The National Trust provides an
unpaved car-park here - but there
are no toilets and nowhere to buy
refreshments.

At high tide there is little more than a
strip of shingle, but as the tide
recedes it exposes a good expanse
of soft sand, and some excellent rock
pools.

Northcott is a great spot for a
romantic picnic, or as a start and
finish point for a peaceful coast-path

Crooklets

Crooklets is a big, sandy beach at
the northern end of Bude town. At low
tide you can walk along the sand
from Crooklets to the town's other
beach Summerleaze.

The surfing here is excellent - but the
break can get ragged at either end of
the tide.

The beach is patrolled by lifeguards
in summer.

Gentle Warning...
Crooklets, along with its pub, is where
the local teenagers choose to hang.
These youngsters are basically
harmless, but they can be noisy,
rowdy and irritating if you are not part
of their scene! If you are beyond your
teens, or you have young children,
you will probably prefer Summerleaze
Beach.
Summerleaze Beach is pretty much
perfect!

Here you will find a vast expanse of soft
sand with space for everybody! There is a
massive car-park.
The surf here is top-notch at all states of
the tide. Lifeguards patrol the beach in
summer.

At the eastern end of the beach you will
find the seawater swimming pool -
excellent for kids, and the tide refills it
every day, so it is very clean.

At the western end of the beach, the
Bude Canal starts its journey inland. A
short walk along the canal brings you to
several excellent places to eat and drink.
Summerleaze is also home to the
wonderful
Life's a Beach!
Cafe/Restaurant.

The coast path at the western end of the
beach offers easy walking with
spectacular views.
Widemouth &
Black Rock Beach

Widemouth (pronounced wid-mth) Bay is
actually two beaches in one. Both
beaches are safe for swimming.

At the eastern end (nearest to Bude) it
is known as Widemouth Beach, and at
the western end it is called Black Rock
Beach. Each section has its own car park,
toilets and places to eat and drink.

Black Rock tends to get less crowded
and has better rock pools for kids to
explore.
Lifeguards patrol both ends of the bay
during summer.
Millook

Millook is one of the area's best kept
secrets.
There are no facilities here, no
parking, no toilets, nowhere to eat or
drink.
The beach is shingle, and quite narrow.
And there are no lifeguards on patrol.
In fact, compared with the other
beaches in the area, Millook seems to
have very little to recommend it! But if
you want to escape the crowds, even
at the height of summer, Millook is
the place to come.

And when the surf is really up, when
the waves are big - Millook is a
magnet for some of the best surfers in
the region.
Don't come here to surf - come here
to watch! Bring a picnic and enjoy the
show!
Crackington
Haven
Crackington Haven is an absolute joy!

The beach is wonderful - especially at
low tide. Lifeguards patrol here in
summer.
The surfing is superb - Surfboards,
bodyboards and wet-suits for hire.
There are two beach cafes and the
Coombe Barton pub - right beside the
beach.

Crackington Haven is a fabulous place
for spotting wildlife. Seals rest on the
rocks just offshore, and in early summer
the basking sharks arrive. These gentle
giants eat only plankton - so they are
no threat to swimmers,
and they have to be seen to be believed!

Can you imagine a fish as big as a bus!
Strangles

Strangles is a secret - so keep it to
yourself!

Hard to find, and even harder to reach,
Strangles is never crowded - in fact most
of the time you can have the entire place
to yourself.
The coastal scenery around Strangles is
THE most spectacular in Cornwall. To the
east is Crackington Haven, and to the
West is High-Cliff - the highest cliff in
Cornwall.

Access to the beach is via a steep path,
parts of which have steps cut into the rock
- to make it easier. Allow half an hour to
walk down - and a full hour to walk back
up again!
It's a hard slog back up, so don't burden
yourself with too much baggage! But there
are no facilities here - so bring a picnic.
Surf Info: Good quality lefts and rights, especially at low tide.
Some strong rips - so inexperienced surfers should exercise extreme caution.
Surf info: Good beach breaks. Best surfed at low-mid tide.
Breaks get ragged at high tide.
Surf Info: Good plunging waves throughout the tide range.
There are some rips at the sides of the beach at high tide so novices should
take care.
Surf Info: Several good beach breaks - and a fairly decent reef break.
And plenty of space for everybody!
Ideal for beginners to intermediate surfers.
A great beach to learn  to surf. Boards and wet-suits can be hired.
Surf Info: The surf at Northcott Mouth is excellent.
Best at low tide when the sandbanks often throw up some good hollow  waves.
Surf Info: When the surf is really up, Millook has one of the best left hand reef
breaks in Europe. But this is a small beach and on big days it attracts the best
surfers in the region - so space is limited!
